A Tale of Two Flus: A Focus on Seasonal and Novel H1N1 During Pregnancy
Location
On-demand Webcast
Course Description
The emergence this spring of a new strain of influenza A H1N1 (swine flu) has put health authorities around the globe on alert for an influenza pandemic, and caused a storm of mass media coverage. However, is this novel influenza really more severe than seasonal influenza? And what do seasonal and current influenza outbreaks mean in particular for the pregnant population?
View an on-demand webcast of the AWHONN side symposium held on June 30, 2009 focusing on the recent influenza epidemic, surveillance and its impact, as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) recommendations and plans. The dynamic panel explores current vaccines and treatments such as antivirals, with talks specific to the pregnant patient and flu, a high-risk combination. The role of healthcare providers in protecting pregnant patients will also be covered.
The panelists represent four distinct but interlocking points of views: the voices of a health authority, nurse, physician and patient.
This educational seminar is sponsored by CSL Biotherapies, Inc.
